FAQs
What is the NJ Digital Media Tax Credit
30-35% of qualified digital media production expenses and an additional +2% or 4% diversity bonus are eligible to be received in sellable tax credits.
What’s the goal of this program?
To incentivize production companies and digital media organizations to film and create digital media content in New Jersey.
The New Jersey Film & Digital Media Tax Credit Program provides a transferable (and sellable) credit against the corporation business tax and the gross income tax for certain expenses incurred for the production of certain films and digital media content in New Jersey.
What years am I eligible for?
Credits are currently available for past years’ digital media work in 2020, 2021, and 2022, and 2023-2027+
How is the credit calculated?
To illustrate, if you spent $10M with qualified NJ vendors and/or in combination with payroll salaries in NJ for qualified digital media services in 2021, you would qualify for a minimum of $3M in sellable tax credits (30% x $10M = $3M tax credit). If you spent $20M on qualified expenses in 2022, you would qualify for an additional $6M for that year (30% x $20M = $6M tax credit), and so on until the credits with the NJEDA run out.
